Borrower information and practical next steps

BorrowerFirst's existing guides remain freely available. These additional notes help borrowers manage payday and digital loan recovery concerns online.

Know your loan

Keep your loan agreement, Key Fact Statement, sanction letter, disbursement proof, repayment history and official lender details. Ask for itemised statements if a balance is unclear.

Recovery communications

Maintain a written communication channel. Log repeated calls, threatening messages and third-party contact. Persistent intimidating recovery conduct can breach applicable RBI directions, although an individual further call does not automatically establish wrongdoing.

Verify field agents

Request verifiable name, agency, lender identification and written authorisation. Do not share personal records with unverified persons. Field agents do not have an automatic right to enter private premises.

Preserve evidence

Keep original emails, screenshots, call records, messages and complaint acknowledgements, with dates. Store records privately and avoid publicly exposing contact or identity information.

File grievances

Raise a factual written complaint with your lender's official grievance officer. Eligible unresolved matters may be escalated through RBI's CMS. Criminal threats, misuse of data or impersonation may require police or cybercrime reports.

Plan repayments responsibly

Communicate realistic payment proposals, seek an updated statement, and ask for any agreed terms in writing. Avoid compounding expensive short-term borrowing simply to repay other loans.
